Hungry Bites: Snooze an A.M. Eatery

Guess who’s back?  Back again! Weezy’s back tell a friend!  I know it has been a hot minute since I’ve said some things, but you can’t keep a hungry stomach away.  I am so stoked to tell you about this awesome experience.   The very first and last time I had this spectacular food was in Denver, Colorado.  The origin of snooze and I was highly impressed.  So usually I’m not the one to go to a grand opening, but for this place I made an exception.  As always, I didn’t realize it was the grand opening when we went there (haha go figure right).  Once again another pretty day, but the summertime heat was definitely intense.

Where Did Lemweezy End Up This Time?

Snooze an A.M. Eatery
3217 Montrose Blvd Suite 100
Houston, TX 77006

This crafty place is located off of Studemont and montrose.  Almost at the exact intersection.  Its also a little tiny looking from the outside so beware you may easily pass it up.

Looking at Snoozes from the parking lot (Don’t mind Cindy)

Its brand spanking new, but it brings an old school vibe with a new school generation twist. Definitely a must visit for sure!  The one down side is the amount of parking.

IMG_3014.JPG
Yeah not much room we had to park on the street on the side

Yeah so be prepared to look for parking unless you’re pretty lucky, in which case we weren’t.  None the less ,there is also a nice little area to sit outside.   I wasn’t sure if this was a waiting area or if you could actually eat out here since we came on opening day in the afternoon, there wasn’t a line to get it.   If Houston permits you could probably eat outside, but probably not until December ha!  So from the outside looking in, the place does seem small, but it is actually a pretty big place.  It is more long than wide if you get what I mean. 😉

A Little Back Story

This awesome breakfast joint was created by two brothers Jon and Adam Schlegal.  They wanted to do something different then your typical breakfast place.  It is a laid back atmosphere with tons of energy and super friendly service.  Everyone in the establishment is amazingly welcoming and nice.  Their mantra:

It only takes a moment to make a difference.

The place really seems genuine which is very rare these days. The “snoozers” as they refer to themselves have created a traditional american breakfast, but with a creative twist.  Oh and the best part they also serve BOOZE!  From mules to mimosas to some crazy irish coffees.  Will definitely wake you up!  They love to give back and recycle so gotta love that.  They donate 1% of each snooze back to the community for either goods or services.  How can you not like this place already!??!?!?

Stepping Into Snooze

So after you get out of the 100 degree Houston heat and into the restaurant man it’s relaxing.

IMG_6840.JPG
If there is a wait they provide water and complimentary coffee

We were lucky enough to not have to wait, but man gotta love a free cup of coffee!  So the hostess walks us over and the restaurant is super nice and cold just like I like it!

Can you spot the traveling cloud

So we found our cozy booth and tried to be calm.  Super exicted to be in Snooze again!  I’m getting fidgety in our booth looking at the menu.  Yeah I’m a fat kid, so food makes me happy!

NOM NOM NOM

So the menu can be a bit overwhelming because everything sounds amazing.  They have everything from pancakes, to sandwiches, to french toast, breakfast, brunch, kitchen sink, and even shoes haha just messing.  Our server was a mad cool chick named Kandra.  Super nice and knowledgeable of the menu.  She pointed us in the direction and probably helped sway our choices on food.  Shout out to Kandra for the solid service and recommendations!  First things first, we needed coffee and what is a breakfast joint without coffee.  I had to work that day so I didn’t get any boozie drinks like an Irish Coffee or a Bloody Mary.  I assure you their alcoholic drinks are solid too!

Iced coffee and a cappucino

This place doesn’t have much for appetizers, but she totally sold us on the pancake flight!  If you don’t know what that it is.. It is exactly like it sounds.  Choose from any pancake flavors or even french toast flavors and you get 3!

from left to right(peach cobbler, pineapple upside down, drunken monkey french toast

Yeah words can’t even describe this heavenly goodness.  I’m salivating looking at this already.  The peach cobbler is a buttermilk pancake filled with fresh peaches then topped with almond streusel, vanilla cream and whipped raspberry marscapone.  Wow is all i can say.  This was a phenomenal pancake.  So soft and fluffy, but can still melt in your mouth.  Not sure how this is possible, but it is!

So the pineapple upside down pancake was unbelievable.  It is a buttermilk pancake with canalized pineapple chunks, house made vanilla creme anglaise and cinnamon butter.  Holy Pancake batman.. This was the mother of all pancakes to me.  I’ve never enjoyed a pancake so much in my life.

Lastly not a pancake is the drunk’n monkey french toast.  Griddled slices of white chocolate banana bread topped with rum-toffee sauce, toasted walnuts, whipped mascarpone cream and  a brulleed banana.  This is the mother of all french toast.  Oh my word…. it was so crazy I didn’t even know how to react.  Stunning is all I can say.  It was like being tazed-in-the-mouth intense.

Can you believe this was our appetizer.. HAHAH no wonder I can’t get a beach body..

from left to right (chilaquilles benedict, chili verde benny)

So Kandra also talked me into the benedicts.. A mix and match to be exact! I got to try 2 different benedicts and Jesus Effffin Christ was it the best decision I’ve ever made. The chilaquiles benedict (left), a barbacoa style beef over a stack of ranchero sauced tortillas and melted cheese with poached cage free eggs, green chili hollandaise, pico de gallo and cojita cheese.  As if the pancake flight wasn’t enough good gravy! For you pork lovers the chili verde benny (right), slow cooked pulled pork over a stack of green chile sauced tortillas melted cheese poached cage free eggs, green chili hollandaise, pico de gallo and cojita cheese.  Cheese makes everything better doesn’t it..  I cannot express to you how amazing this food was.

IMG_3011.JPG
so good you have to see it to believe it

Man hands down best eggs benedicts I’ve ever had in my life.  They have the art of hollandaise down for sure!! Cindy loves corn beef hash.  It’s definitely her kryptonite so that is what she got.

IMG_2982.JPG
A bad @$$ corn beef hash

A super fresh corn beef hash.  So flavorful!  A signature shredded hash mixed with artisan corned beef, carmalized poblanos and onions topped with 2 eggs cooked your style with toast or tortillas.  I’ve never seen this gal eat so fast in her life.  You know it’s good when she doesn’t say a word and just keeps eating!  It looks simple, but is an excellent choice and you won’t regret it!

This place deserves and will always get a grade of…..

The Lemweezy Richter scale says 100, A1, A++, half man, half amazing.  This place is a must eat breakfast brunch.  They are only open for breakfast or lunch, but you have to eat here.  It is one of the kings of breakfast places.  Everything on their menu is perfect.  I’ll definitely be back again probably try their breakfast pot pie!  But yes go.  Why are you reading this GO NOW!!
